And the Winner Is...

Best death scene EVER: Pee Wee Herman (paging Mr. Herman...Mr. P. W. Herman...I can't remember his real name) wins the best death scene ever when he is staked through the heart by Buffy in his pivotal role as the right hand man to the main biter in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Classic death scene...

Best Farewell Scene: The Princess Bride's Billy Crystal and Carol Kane frantically wave goodbye to the Dread Pirate Roberts and his cohorts. "Goodbye, goodbye! Have fun stormin the castle, boys."

Best Revenge Scene: The Princess Bride's Inigo Montoya: "My name is Inigo Montoya. You have killed my father. Prepare to die."

Top Tear Jerker: I Am Sam. If you can watch this movie and keep a dry eye then I hear by dub you heartless.

Unbelievable Ending: Pan's Labyrinth. SPOILER!!! There is no way I'm going to believe that she was actually...well...you know...instead of what I really want to believe which is she went to live...you know.

Best "I Didn't See That One Coming" Scene: The Butterfly Effect, but not the "politically correct" ending, the original ending where he goes back to the time of his birth and ends it once and for all. Oooo...I SO did not see that one coming.

Saddest Romance: Somewhere in Time. Oh, I wept...I sobbed. I couldn't watch this movie again because it so totally broke my heart.

Best Hand Holding Scene: Yes, I'm sure you've already guessed; Jack and Rose on the Titanic when he is teaching her how to "fly."

Movie Most Quoted in Chat Room Conversations: Monty Python's HOLY GRAIL. "I fart in your general direction."

Humor me, now, and tell me what's in your wallet...er...what's your best scene. I'm sure I have tons of others, but for some reason my fried brain doesn't remember them at all at all.

  1. I'm no judge of what I'd consider to be the "best" in any type category with respect to movies -mainly cause I rare get to see any unless I happen to notice one I saw a long time ago and want a "refresher" playing on Turner Classic Movies or some highly touted film I've never seen before -also playing on TCM. However, there are some lines that my kids and I always liked and remember most of the dialogue in them and we like to interject these into conversations when we can. One is from a movie that is a big favorite of my kids and I -"Better Off Dead." (Don't ask me who played in it cause rarely do I remember important stuff like that but anyway, the line is when the French exchange student is either being introduced by the busybody neighbor or something like that and she (the neighbor I think) pinches the French girls cheeks together saying "French fries. You know, French fries." But she pronounces the word French as "Fronch." Stupid I know, but that line will always get my kids and I into giggling like a bunch of loons!

  2. Hm. I always like that scene in The Wicker Man. The newer one. Nicholas Cage is in it and it's so darn stupid. In the end he's getting led to his death and he's telling the women who are making the sacrifice (of him) so the bees will give them good honey harvest: "Killing me won't bring back your g/d honey...!!!" For some reason that cracks me up!

  3. Oh, Alex, I love this post! I'm answering off the top of my head, which means about a hundred times today I'll think of something better...

Best headbanging in a Gremlin scene? Wayne's World - Bohemian Rhapsody

Best use of Stonehenge? Spinal Tap (runner up: Tess of the d'Urberville's)

Scene guaranteed to make me cry instantly? last scene in Officer and a Gentleman (don't you judge me...it lifts me up where I belong)

Scene most likely to make me shiver with antici - pation? Frankie's boot in the elevator keeping time to the intro to 'Sweet Transvestite' in the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Best use of humor based on a medieval torture device? Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure ("put them in the iron maiden" "IRON MAIDEN? EXCELLENT!" "execute them" "Bogus")

Best lemonade out of lemons moment? Life of Brian - Always Look on the Bright Side of Life

Somebody stop me - I could do this all day (and probably will...)

  4. Too. Much. Thinking.

    I love-slash-hate a post that poses a question.
    Love the question.
    Hate the failure.

Saddest Romance - Revenge, with Kevin Costner. I was really hungover (possibly still drunk) and cried for hours.
Best Hand Holding - Pride and Prejudice (the newer one), Mr. Darcy helps Elizabeth into the carriage and kind of flexes the hand that she touched as he walks away. What's UP with that???? I LOVE that.

Like Tammy - I'll be thinking of things all day long.

    This is a TERRIFIC POST.

  5. You guys thought of some really good ones...and Jeni, although I don't remember seeing "Better Off Dead," I get the whole "fronch fries" thing.
The newest version of Pride and Predjudice is probably the best version made. Although I am not a big fan of Kierra Knightly, she did a fantastic job in this movie, and Mr. Darcey...well...he was a perfect Mr. Darcey. I will never be able to read Pride and Prejudice the same way again.

Tammy, I can't believe I forgot both Wayne's World AND Rocky Horror. I'm so not worthy.

Mimi, I do believe this is your second time mentioning "The Wicker Man." Is there something we need to know about you and Mr. Cage? I saw "The Wicker Man," too, and it was a cornball of a feast! Totally delicious!!!

  6. P. S. Don't you think Tim Curry would have made an EXCELLENT Professor Lockhart? I do. His is the only mouthful of teeth that could have done him justice.

  7. Hummm... I have a bad memory. I can watch a movie, wait a few days and watch it again because I don't remember all that happened in it. But...

Best tear jerker: A Walk To Remember. SPOILER: Bad boy and good girl fall in love. Bad boy turns good. Good girl dies.

Best slap in the face scene: Ever After, (SPOILER) at the end when Prince Henery says, "Marguerite, I don't believe you have met... my wife."

I have seen those two movies AT LEAST 3 times each!!

  9. Best "You Go Girl" scene (and my favorite movie scene of all time): Scarlett O'Hara standing in a field, all dishelved, at sunset. She holds up a clump of dirt and says "As God as my witness, I will never be hungry again." You go Scarlett!
